About Us
Strickland's Market is locally owned and family operated, full-service butcher shop offering the finest selection of meats/pork/poultry. When you enter our store, you are treated as part of the family. Our friendly staff does everything possible to make certain your experience is special and unique. All items can be cut to custom orders.
Bill is carrying on a long family tradition started by his grandfather, William Jordan Creel. Who ran a small string of Butcher shoppes/groceries in and around Gadsden, Alabama in the 1930's until the 1960's.
In the early days the meat was kept in an old wooden walk-in cooler, with 8" thick oak doors, refrigerated by 500 lbs of block ice until electricity finally became common. Sales were rang up on cash registers that were hand crafted @ the time of hammered copper & tin.
Bill Strickland started his career in a meat packing plant in Alabama. The sides of beef & whole hogs were cut there & packaged for the customers freezers. In 1981 Bill earned his Master Butchers License thru the AFL-CLO for the state of Alabama, this started a long career in the retail meat & grocery industry. Starting with the largest grocery chain in Alabama, in 1984. At the time a lengthy Union strike brought Bill to Florida.
In 1984 by chance, Bill went to Daytona's bike week, fell in love with Central Florida and moved here. There was plenty of job opportunities for qualified meat cutters. At the time Bill earned his degree of Meat Management in 1988, from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. He started his career in Central Florida in the retail grocery business as a meat dept manager and eventually was promoted to store manager. Today Bill states there are at least 30 men & women working for various grocery chains that worked & gained experience under him. They are now meat cutters, meat managers, store managers and supervisors here in Central Florida.
In 2007 after realizing something was missing in his life, and after long discussions with his wife (Pam). Bill made the decision to retire from Publix and continue the Legacy started by his grandfather W.J. Creel.
So today in the village of Geneva, Florida is Stricklands Market, continually bringing family history of providing high quality meats and down home customer service to the area.
